Carmen, Oklahoma is little town that aims to be completely
energy self sufficient with the help of B.C. based Endurance Wind
Power
Vancouver, BC July 22, 2010 - Carmen,
Oklahoma, a small town of approximately 400 people, is working at
being the greenest little town in the state. Thanks to wind
power.
With a total of five turbines installed, the town will be one of
the first proto-types of its kind, becoming self sufficient through
the production of its own energy.
So far three Endurance S-343 turbines have been installed, with
two more turbines on the way. The turbines will power the
city office, park, library, and water wells. The first three
turbines were installed in the town's unique, 100 year-old
park. The remaining turbines will be installed at the town's
water wells.
It is expected that each of the city park turbines, as well as
one of the water well turbines, will supply 14,000 to 18,000
kilowatt hours of electricity each year.
"It is an absolute pleasure to be involved with this project.
The milestone that is being set in Carmen, Oklahoma is a fantastic
example of what can be done in a town that enthusiastically takes
the social and environmental responsibility of their own electrical
energy supply into their own hands," said Monty Taylor, Wind
Specialist, P&K Wind Energy. Monty has been working with
the town for over a year to bring this project to fruition.
"This is an excellent customer affirmation of the value of the
Endurance wind turbines. The adoption of wind power is spreading
across a number of market verticals and applications. The
pioneering spirit at Carmen Oklahoma will surely help the
widespread adoption of this excellent alternative energy source
across the entire United States," said Glenn Johnson, CEO,
Endurance Wind Power.
The residents of Carmen are expecting the turbines to put their
town on the map and serve as a point of interest to potential
tourists. However, tourists are not the only ones to be
excited about these turbines. In order to demonstrate their
commitment to this new energy process, the town residents were able
to sign the blades of these turbines before they were installed for
operation.
