July 26, 2010 - ECO Canada
has released its Canadian Environmental Sector Trends 2010 report,
a high-level research report that investigates the factors and
drivers of growth and change in the environmental sector, with
special focus on how change will affect employment, occupations and
macro labour issues.
The environmental sector is a highly
complex field of endeavour, comprised of a diverse set of
activities ranging from high-growth segments such as carbon
emissions reductions markets, to regulated growth markets such as
waste management, to declining employment markets in the natural
resource industries.
The report, which has proven highly useful for
researchers and strategic decision-makers involved in the
environmental sector as well as those looking to enter into an
environmental career, provides employers,
government, environmental
practitioners and ECO Canada with
a broad and detailed overview of
the trends affecting growth in
Canada's environmental sector .
The report stresses that emerging areas of the
environmental sector, namely carbon & climate change mitigation
and investments in energy efficiency and renewable energy resources
will drive the greatest future growth for the environmental sector
and should be incorporated into future definitions and models of
the environmental sector
Key findings of the study include:
-
Over the last decade there has been a
gradual trend toward pollution prevention activities as a
replacement for pollution abatement and control activities.
-
The Carbon Offset Market is experiencing
176% Annual Growth.
-
Emerging areas of the environmental sector,
namely carbon & climate change mitigation and investments in
energy efficiency and renewable energy resources will drive the
greatest future growth for the environmental sector.
