GLOBE-Net, August 11, 2011 - Nominations are
being sought for the 2012 Zayed Future Energy
Prize, an annual award for outstanding achievement in
renewable energy and sustainability. You are invited to submit a
candidate for consideration.
Named in honor of the Founding Father of the United Arab Emirates,
the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Zayed Future Energy
Prize will continue his environmental legacy in promoting the
development of renewable and sustainable energy solutions.
The Zayed Future Energy Prize is the world's preeminent prize
for innovation, leadership, long-term vision and impact in
renewable energy and sustainability. Launched in 2008, and now in
its fourth year, this annual award honours individuals, small and
medium enterprises, and large corporations around the world for
making exemplary strides in creating a sustainable energy
future.
Since its 2008 launch, the Zayed Future Energy Prize has
inspired nearly 1800 nominations from more than 90 countries.
Past winners exemplify leadership in multiple sectors: energy
efficient building design; smart-grid devices; solar and wind
power, carbon capture and sequestration; modeling and simulation;
biofuels, and battery and energy storage.
Past winners include: Toyota Motor Corporation/Prius
electric-hybrid vehicle; Vestas, for wind turbine technology; and a
Bangladeshi entrepreneur who brought solar energy technology to two
million people in rural communities.
To promote even greater participation in the 2012 competition,
the Zayed Future Energy Prize has increased its total prize
fund to US$4 million, making it the world's largest annual
prize purse for future energy solutions.
New categories for the Zayed Future Energy Prize are:
- SMEs and NGOs:
- Winner: US $1.5 million
- Runner-up 1: US $1 million
- Runner-up 2: US $500,000
- Lifetime Achievement Award (US $500,000)
- Large Corporations No monetary value (Recognition Award)

A panel of global energy experts from leading international
authorities and organizations will cast their votes to select our
finalists. A jury will choose the winner and runners-up per
category. The awards ceremony will be held on January 17th, 2012,
in Abu Dhabi.
